 Two Nigerians emerge winners in 2020 U.S elections

Two Nigerian-Americans contesting in the United States 2020 general elections, Oye Owolewa and Esther Agbaje have reportedly won their respective positions.

Oye Owolewa, a Nigeria born Democrat has emerged as the first Nigerian congressman in history.

Oye has won a shadow (non voting) seat in the United States House of Representatives to represent the District of Columbia.

Based on the results, Oye had 82.65% of the votes, which represents 135,234 votes against Joyce Robinson-Paul, who had 15,541 votes, and Sohaer Syed with 12,846 votes.

Also, Esther Agbaje has been elected into the Minnesota House of Representatives.

She will represent district 59B in the Minnesota house of representatives on the platform of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor-Party (DFLP), an affiliate of the US Democratic Party.

She pulled a total of 17,396 votes, which represents 74.7% of the total ballots cast, defeating her closets opponent Alan Shilepsky. Shilepsky garnered 4,126 votes, which represents 17.7% of the total votes cast.

Oye Owolewa is an American of Nigerian descent from Kwara State. He holds a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in pharmacy from the Northeastern University, while Esther Agbaje, is the 35-year-old daughter of an episcopal priest and a librarian, both Nigerian immigrants.

She holds a law degree from Harvard University, a Master’s from the University of Pennsylvania, and has served in the US department of state.

Out of the nine Nigerian-Americans who vied for different positions in the 2020 United States Elections, these two have been declared winners in their respective positions.
