 WASSCE: NEC endorses sanctions for exam malpractices

The highest decision-making organ of WAEC on examination-related matters, Nigeria Examination Committee (NEC), has authorized appropriate sanctions for all cases of malpractices during the examination.

A statement by the acting Head, Public Affairs, Demianus Ojijeogu, stated that the committee meets twice a year to deliberate on matters in relation with the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

In the 70th meeting which held at WAEC Training and Testing Centre, Ogba, Lagos, Dec 10 to 12, 2020, the committee approved “that the entire results of candidates involved in proven cases, which attracted cancellation of entire results, be cancelled, while subject results of those involved in proven cases, which attracted cancellation of subject results, be similarly cancelled.”

It added that some candiddates will be barred from sitting for the examination for a number of years while some schools will be derecognised for a specified number of years or have their recognition completely withdrawn.

Also, supervisors found wanting during the discharge of their examination duties,”will be formally reported to their employers and blacklisted while some invigilators will also be reported to the appropriate authorities for disciplinary action.”
