Covid-19: FG prepares palliatives for Ogun residents, SMEs, others
The Federal Government has prepared palliatives for Small scale businesses and petty traders in Nigeria to cushion the impact of the lockdown on their ventures.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, who disclosed this on Tuesday, stated that poor residents of Ogun State were currently being captured to benefit from the Conditional Cash Transfer scheme.
She spoke at the daily briefing on national updates on COVID-19 in Abuja.
The minister said, “The Conditional Cash Transfer has already taken place in Lagos. Last week in Ogun, they were in the process of doing the registration and the capturing of these beneficiaries for the CCT.
“But for other palliatives, we have taken to Ogun State and the Trader Moni intervention we have done in Lagos and Ogun states.”
On palliatives for small businesses and petty traders in the informal sector, the minister said the government would continue to reach out to them.
She said, “This set of people are also our target beneficiaries. We are taking the interventions to communities and satellite towns where these people live.
“So, they are going to benefit from this intervention and some of them had been benefitting really from our interventions before the outbreak of COVID-19.”
Umar-Farouq further stated that some of the trucks of rice received from the Nigeria Customs Service had been distributed to states in Nigeria.
