COVID-19: We were able to outsmart Covid-19 Pandemic at Al-Hikmah University – VC

Outgoing Vice-chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, Professor Mohammed Taofeek Ibrahim.
on Thursday said the University has outsmarted COVID-19 pandemic by its continuous academic programmes.
The Professor of Epidemiology and Disease Control disclosed this to Journalists in Ilorin while featuring on
‘News-Keg’ a personality programme of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kwara Council on Thursday 8 July, 2020.
Professor Taofeek said that the school had run online courses and organized exams for its students.
According to him “Our academic programmes are not affected by covid 19.
We run online courses as if students are on campus and examinations were conducted, using our ICT infrastructure, eg zoom and WhatsApp platforms, backed up with voice note.
With delightful response from students and lectures”
He, however called on the federal government to follow the trend and adopt the use of digital technology to teach students while staying in the comfort of their homes.
Proffessor Taofeek said it is not yet safe to open schools now because of the rate in which the virus is spreading and most importantly; lack of safety materials in the country.
The University don also urged parents to be patient with the present situation and support government effort to flatten the curves of the pandemic in Nigeria.
Giving account of his stewardship at Al-Hikmah University as Vice-Chancelor,
Professor Ibrahim said prior to 2015 when he was appointed as the Vice-chancellor, the foremost faith based University only had five faculties but his administration had created additional two, which are; Faculties of Health Sciences and Agriculture.
He added that all the courses run in the institution enjoyed full accreditation of the National Universities Commission (NUC) under his leadership except two that are being run on interim accreditation.
The outgoing Vice-chancellor added that his administration established many centres through which the University is generating funds,
most especially during the break in which the school could have been on standstill.
