Lagos by-elections: Gbadamosi wins polling unit, decries poor turnout

By Emmanuel Awosika

Babatunde Gbadamosi, standard-bearer of the People’s Democratic Party in the Lagos East Senatorial by-election, won his polling unit in Ikorodu on Saturday.

Gbadamosi had received 22 votes at Polling Unit 14, Ward 1, Ikorodu, enough to defeat his closet rival, Tokunbo Abiru of the All Progressives Congress who polled 12 votes.

According to official election results, 37 voters were accredited at the polling unit. Results also show that three votes were voided.

Gbadamosi had decried the low turnout of voters at his polling unit and in various areas around Ikorodu.

He faulted the INEC for the low turnout, saying the commission did not carry out enough sensitization efforts to encourage voter participation in the election.
