 Muslim Group donates education materials to schools in Lagos

As part of effort to support the less privileged pupils, a non-governmental Muslim women organisation, Sisters of Jannah (SOJ), Lagos Zone, has donated exercise books and other education materials to some selected primary schools in Lagos State.

The beneficiary schools include Estate Primary School, Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Ikorodu; Aboru Primary School, Iyana Ipaja; Mushin Public Primary School, Mushin and Ijora Oloye Primary School, Ijora, all in Lagos State.

According to the coordinator of Lagos zone of the group, Mrs. Rukayat Folashade Busari, the project tagged ‘Back to School Support’ is one of the organisation’s many activities.

She explained that the project was born out of the urge to lay importance on education and to support government’s effort in education sector.

She thereby advised parents to always take education of their children as priority while admonishing the pupils to always be ready to learn and take their academics serious.

Busari stated that the group has, over the years, got itself involved in different charitable activities including Ramadan care programme which is always geared towards providing edibles and financial aid for less well-off Muslim families in the state during the month of Ramadan.

She added that the group has also provided assistance to identified cancer patients to commemorate the yearly World Cancer Day.

Other activities, she said, include settling medical bills of patients in need irrespective of their tribe or religion affiliations, assisting individuals with urgent medical needs especially those whose cases require travelling abroad, empowering widows and other individuals.

“These are done to follow the dictates of Allah that those who are blessed should stretch arms of assistance to those who are not that well off in the society.”

According to her, the group was formed on Facebook by an Abuja based member, Hajia Ramatu Aliyu in 2016 with the sole aim of carrying out charitable acts to assist the downtrodden in the society.

Busari noted that the group has been discharging the responsibilities since its inception.

She pointed out that the group has its members in many states of the federation as well as overseas.

She unveiled that plans are under way to partner with bigger Non-governmental Organisations, dignitaries and government for funding as she pleaded with influential individuals in the society to support the good course being carried by the group.

She appreciated the group members  for their donations towards the success of the programme.
