The Nigeria Computer Society has advised the Nigerian government to implement the use of Internet of Things for a large scale agriculture driven by technology.

The NCS President, Prof. Adesina Sodiya, at a food security event which held in Lagos, pointed that there was still a lot to be done concerning the adoption of technology in the area of agriculture in Nigeria.

This event themed ‘Towards a data-driven agro-tech’ was organised by FoodCrowdy, an agrotech company.

According to Sodiya, agriculture is now beyond the use of just machinery and agricultural firms should start looking into agriculture based on intelligence or IoT.

“We need to start looking in the direction of the implementation of IoT for smart agriculture. What that means is that we should be looking at very large scale agriculture driven by technology.

“We are looking at having a kind of agricultural settlement that will be completely smart in the sense that all the operations in the farmland are completely driven by technology, including the use of robots, sensors, drones and so on.” he said.

He also urged the government to implement a large scale IoT based agriculture, giving priority to a tech-based agriculture in the country.

Tobi Fapohunda, the Non-Executive Director and Founder of Food Crowdy, also stated that data is the next lifeline for the agro-tech company.

According to him, data is the keypilllar of Foodcrowdy and the company’s aim is the use of data and analytics to aid the government in agricultural dealings.
