 Nigeria’s first electric car unveiled in Lagos

The Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, launched the Hyundai Kona, Nigeria’s first electric car, on Friday.

Sanwo-Olu unveiled the Kona, a product of Stallion Group, at the VON Automobiles Nigeria facility in Ojo, Lagos, where it was built.

The Kona is already on sale in Europe where it has quickly gained reputation as one of the best electric cars available.

Sanwo-Olu praised Stallion Group for the initiave and promised to set up electric charging ports across the state for owners to charge their electric cars.

The governor stated that the completion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway was imminent, saying it would ease business activities in the state.

He said: “Lagos-Badagry Expressway which has been expanded from 2 to 10 lanes will soon be complete, we are not rushing the road; we are building a first class road construction project.”

Managing Director of VON Automobiles, Rohtagi Manish, said the Kona would spark positive change in Nigeria’s automotive industry.

He said the Kona, being Nigeria’s first All-Electric vehicle, would reduce pollution and make the environment greener.

The Hyundai Kona costs N24 million and has a driving range of 482 km with an acceleration of (0-100kms) in 9.7 secs.
