Oyo State Fire Services Agency said it was able to save lives and properties worth millions of naira in an inferno involving petrol tanker and a Micra car around 12:11pm on Saturday.

The fire incident occurred at Iroko town along Ibadan-Oyo Expressway opposite ADOLAK petrol station.

Confirming the incident to Lagos Street Journal, the Director of Operations of Oyo State Fire Services, Engr. Ismail Adeleke, said the agency was able to put out the fire to save lives and properties.

According to him, the agency received a distress call and immediately rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

He noted that the fire broke out when a petrol loading tanker was trying to manoeuvre a pothole, fell in the process and started spilling petrol.

Adeleke explained that an oncoming Micra car which was also trying to manoeuvre the spilled liquid caught fire.

He said: “Glory be to God, my men have subdued the fire.

“We received the distress call this morning at the control room that there was a petrol tanker on fire at Iroko town along ibadan/Oyo new express road.

“Immediately we turned out one of our fire trucks with fire contingent led by pfs Awoleke.

“On arrival at the scene of incident, it was discovered to be a petrol tanker and Micra taxi burning in an open space exactly at the front of ADOLAK PETROL STATION. They swift went into action and they were able to extinguished the fire within the short period.

“The petrol tanker was on motion, on getting to the pothole, during process of navigating the pothole, the driver lost control and the vehicle fell on an open road. The petroleum spirit started gushing out. One Micra was trying to manoeuvre the spilled liquid and fire started.

“But we were able to save properties worth millions of naira. No live was lost.”

It was gathered that the federal fire service was also at the scene of the incident.
