 Breaking News: Oodua Nation Protest commences in Ibadan

Protest for emancipation of the Oodua Nation has commenced in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, today Saturday, 17th April.

There were fears earlier in the morning that, the protest may not hold due to Police presence in and around the Mapo Hall venue of the protest.

As early as 8:00am when Lagos street journal visited the Mapo Hall venue of the protest, a combined team of Mobile Policemen, Civil Defence Corps, Men of the Operation Burst arm of the Police, State Security Service (SSS) locked up the main entrance to the massive edifice.

Police vans and armed police officers in high numbers were stationed in strategic positions.

Organisers of the protest, Ilana Omo Oodua members were visibly absent at the venue.

However, at about 10:30am, the protesters showed up in trucks drumming and dancing towards the armed police officers right in front of the Mapo Hall.

As at the time of filling this report, the protest had started and protesters in front of the police officers using loud speakers are calling for the Oodua Nation’s independence.

The group had in a WhatsApp message circulated during the week mobilsed members from accross the soutwest states of the federation Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo to converge in Ibadan the proposed Political Capital of the Oodua Nation, urging members to dress in Amotekun Outfits or White regalia.
