 Cult terrorism: Lagos, Ogun residents ready to fight back

Following the cult activities in some communities in Lagos and Ogun States, the residents have trooped out in numbers to guard themselves against the cultists terrorising them day and nights.

At Jankara, Dalemo in Alagbado area and Akinde area of Alakuko in Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Lagos state as well as Campbell area in Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State, the youths were seen with cutlasses, cudgels, bottles and other weapons to fight against the cult groups who, apart from terrorising the communities, take the opportunity to rub people in their houses.

Our Correspondent who was at the scenes reported that police officers were seen patrolling in those areas as it was gathered that the hoodlums have been terrorising the Ares since yesterday, rubbing people in their house and maiming them.

The hoodlums have continued their activities on Saturday morning, making the residents to be on the alert to guard themselves.

It was reported that residents of the areas have been running helter skelter to avoid being killed by cultists who have turned the area into their battle field lately.

It was reported that the Police Command of Ogun State have arrested 19 suspected cultists in Joju, Owode Ijako, Ijoko, Agbado, Ifo and other adjoining communities in Ogun State.

The people of the area have been crying out to the police as the suspected hoodlums reportedly invaded homes to rob residents of their money and belongings.

As a result, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, deployed policemen to the area.

The police, it was learnt, have arrested 19 suspected cultists.

The Ogun State Police Spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

According to Oyeyemi, five of the suspects were arrested at Ijako; one of them was arrested at Winners with a locally made gun; three were arrested in Araromi area of Agbado with face masks, while ten others were picked up at various locations in Ifo, kajola and Ososun areas by SARS operatives.

The crisis was said to have started as a result of the supremacy battle between two rival cult groups, metamorphosing into robbery and other criminal activities.

Some of the youths on guard who spoke to our correspondent said the cultists numbered about 500 keep invading their communities.
