 Multiple accident: Dangote truck kills two, injured seven in Ogun

At least two people have been killed by a truck belonging to Dangote Cement Plc, on Friday, in an accident along Toll-Gate, Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The truck also injured seven other persons in an accident along Toll-Gate, Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun Stat.

The accident which involved the truck, three vehicles and two motorcycles also left seven other persons injured.

Both the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Clement Oladele, and the Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the accident to journalists in Abeokuta.

Oladele and Akinbiyi, in separate statements, said the accident happened at about 11.30am.

They both explained that the truck, with no registration number, was coming from Sango-Ota but lost control due to brake failure and rammed into other vehicles and two motorcycles.

The three affected vehicles were a Volkswagen bus with registration number KTU 952 XY; a Toyota Corolla with registration number EKY 556 ES and a black Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number FKJ 505 DP.

The two motorcycles involved had registration numbers AAB 404 WL and GBE 010 QV.

According to the officials, a male and a female lost their lives to the accident, while seven others, five males and two females, sustained various degrees of injury.

Akinbiyi said the Dangote truck was fully loaded with cement bags while Oladele explained that the corpses had been deposited at Ifo General Hospital Mortuary, while the injured were receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Ota.

“However, it took the combined efforts of the police, TRACE, FRSC, NSCDC (Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps) and SO SAFE Corps to prevent a mob from setting the truck ablaze.

“Moreover, the Dangote truck driver had escaped while efforts are ongoing to load the cement onto another truck to ease the lifting of the truck from the vehicle it fell upon,” Oladele said.
