 University Student Sentenced To Three Months Of Community Service For Fraud

A High Court sitting in Kwara State, last week, sentenced one Olamide Salau, a university student, to three months of community service.

Salau, currently studying at the University of Ilorin, was arraigned on one count of attempting to cheat by criminal impersonation.

According to the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, Salau, using the alias ‘Rick Freeman’, had attempted to defraud by pretending to be Rick Freeman, a Caucasian, with the email count; salauolumide@gamil.com.

The anti-graft body said by so doing, the suspect contravened sections 95 and 321 of the Penal Code Law and was liable for punishment under Section 324 of the Penal Code Law.

In his judgment, Justice Oyinloye found the suspect guilty as charged and ordered sentenced him to three months of community service, starting from September 7 (today) to December 7.

The Judge instructed that the suspect was to sweep the stretch of road between GTB Junction and Abule Nla Furniture, University Road, Tanke, Ilorin.

He further slammed the suspect with a N50,000 fine and instructed him to make himself available to the Non-custodial Unit, Nigerian Correctional Service, Madala, Ilorin, for profiling and documentation.

The Judge said failure on the suspect’s part to fulfill the terms of his sentence would lead to a six-month imprisonment
