Following the increased spate of robbery that has forced residents in some areas in Lagos to set up vigilante groups to protect themselves amid the lockdown, residents of Alfa Nla road, in Oniwaya, Agege area of Lagos, Sunday night, troop out to welcome the arrival of the Rapid Response Squad of the Nigeria Police sent to protect them.

Captured in a video that went rival, on Monday afternoon, the residents defy social distancing order and trooped out to jubilate the arrival of the RRS and TaskForce Officers.

Since the lockdown entered its second week, armed robbers have been having a field day in Lagos and Ogun state communities.

However, the police in Lagos have said that most of the reported cases of robberies in different parts of the metropolis are false alarms raised to cause panic in society.

Several other phone calls to police hotlines turn out to be pranks from the callers, the police added.

Hashtags like #OgunUnrest and #LagosUnrest have trended on Twitter for days with residents reporting robbery cases in Alagbado, Agbado, Ijaiye, Abule Egba, Agege, Ogba, Akute, Ota, and Sango areas of both Lagos and Ogun states.

Multiple residents in Ogun State had told Lagos Street Journal @streetjournal.ng that they had been unable to sleep since the lockdown began a week ago due to the robberies.
